That’s because we want get to some of northern Vietnam’s top natural attractions including spectacular Ban Gioc waterfalls and Ba Be Lake National Park. The tradeoff is that we spend quite a bit of time in our vehicle on this trip. Explore Ba Be, Vietnam’s largest freshwater lake on a 3 hour boat ride and stroll through small villages of various indigenous mountain tribes.

Start your adventure bright and early, leaving Hanoi at around 7:00 or 7:30 AM. This early departure will help you avoid the morning traffic and give you ample time to enjoy the scenic drive through the lush Vietnamese countryside. As you travel north, you’ll witness a beautiful transition from the bustling streets of Hanoi to the tranquil rural landscapes of Northern Vietnam.

Around midday, you’ll arrive in Cao Bang, a perfect spot to take a break. Stretch your legs and enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant, savoring the regional cuisine. This stop not only provides a necessary rest but also allows you to experience the local culture and hospitality of the Cao Bang region.

After lunch, continue your journey with the final 80-kilometer drive to Ban Gioc. The road to the resort is filled with picturesque views, including verdant hills and serene rivers. Arriving in the late afternoon, you’ll have time to settle into your accommodations and perhaps take a short walk to preview the majestic Ban Gioc Waterfall, setting the stage for the adventures awaiting you on the following day.
